Banking with MyGreek
Open FDIC-insured chapter bank accounts and issue officer debit cards inside MyGreek, powered by Crowded.
Banking lets your chapter open FDIC-insured bank accounts and issue debit cards to officers without leaving MyGreek. The accounts are held with Crowded, a banking partner for student organizations, and MyGreek shows and manages them. Only chapter admins see Banking in the side menu, and it's in the web app only.
What you can do with Banking
- Bank accounts. Your chapter gets a main checking account. You can open more accounts for dues, philanthropy, events or anything else, and move money into them.
- Debit cards. Give an officer a digital card, or a physical card mailed to them. A card can spend from the whole account, or only from money you put on the card.
- Activity in one place. Card purchases and account activity show on the Banking page, in the same app as your dues and payments.
Banking is separate from two other features that also involve bank accounts:
- Payouts are deposits of your members' payments into your chapter's bank account. See How payouts work.
- Connect an outside bank account links an account at another bank with Plaid, so its transactions show up for budgeting. See Connect an outside bank account. You don't need it for Crowded accounts.
Getting started with Banking
Open Banking from the side menu. If your chapter hasn't applied yet, you'll see Get started with Banking. One officer fills in a short application with their own details and the chapter's details, and Crowded reviews it. The app says review "typically takes 1-2 business days."
If your chapter already banks with Crowded, don't apply again. Select the here link under the button and send the request. MyGreek support uses your chapter's EIN to find and connect your existing account, and follows up by email.
For the full application, see Open accounts and move money.
The Banking page
Once your application is approved, Banking shows four totals across the top:
| Tile | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Total Balance | The combined balance of all your chapter's accounts. |
| In This Month | Money that came into your accounts since the 1st of this month. |
| Out This Month | Money that went out of your accounts since the 1st of this month. |
| Open Accounts | How many of your accounts are open. |
Below them, Transactions lists activity across all accounts, with the date, amount, description, account, card and type (for example Purchase, Transfer, ACH Payment or Fee). Next to the Transactions heading, Request receipts turns on texting cardholders for a receipt after each card purchase; see Request receipts for card purchases. Accounts on the right lists each account and its balance. Select an account to see its own transactions, its account and routing numbers, and the people and cards on it.
Banking and payouts
Your payouts can go into your Crowded main account. Go to My Chapter → Payouts, select Change under Payout Account, and choose Link a Crowded account. MyGreek support finishes the setup and follows up when it's done. See Change your payout bank account.
Once payouts land in your Crowded main account and you have at least one other open account, each charge type gets a Deposits into setting. Payments for that charge type move automatically to the account you pick once they settle. For example, housing payments can go straight to a housing account. See Set up what you charge.
Banking fees
The one Banking fee MyGreek shows is for physical debit cards: a one-time $8 fee per physical card, taken from the card's account when the card is issued. Digital cards don't have this fee. Account terms are Crowded's; you agree to them when you apply.
