Choose who pays processing fees
Pass card and bank processing fees to members as a convenience fee, or have your chapter cover them.
Every card and bank payment has a processing fee. Chapter admins choose who pays it: members, through a convenience fee added to their payment, or your chapter. You change this on the web.
Steps
- Open the account menu and select My Chapter.
- Select the Payment Processing tab.
- Turn Members pay processing fees on or off. The change saves right away, and the chip next to it shows Enabled or Disabled.
The Your Rates card on the same tab shows your chapter's Card rate, Bank / ACH rate and Maximum payment. These rates are set by MyGreek. You can only choose who pays them.
When members pay (switch on)
A Convenience Fee is added to each member payment, and members see it as its own line before they pay: on the web, in the mobile app and on the pay page parents use. It's sized so that, after processing, your chapter receives the full amount of the charge.
- Cards and Apple Pay: the card rate plus $0.30 per payment.
- Bank payments: the bank rate, up to the cap shown in Your Rates.
In your payouts, members' convenience fees offset the processing fees on those payments. See See what's in a payout.
When your chapter pays (switch off)
Members pay exactly the charge amount. Your chapter absorbs the processing fee, which is taken out of your payouts.
What happens next
- The setting applies to payments made after you change it, including future payment plan payments. Payments already made keep the fee they were charged with.
- Members aren't notified of the change. They see the new total the next time they pay.
- Store and Supporters have their own processing fee settings in their settings tabs. This switch covers dues and other charges.
Refunds and convenience fees
When you refund a payment that included a convenience fee, the Issue Refund dialog shows Also refund processing fees (paid from your chapter account). It's checked by default.
- Checked: the member gets back their share of the convenience fee too. A full refund returns the whole amount they paid, and a partial refund returns the same share of the fee. Your chapter covers that fee money.
- Unchecked: the member gets back only the charge amount. Fees you withhold on a refund can't be refunded later through MyGreek. The refund shows Processing fees not refunded.
See Refund a payment.
Common questions
Can we change our rates?
No. Rates are set by MyGreek. Contact support@mygreek.us with questions about your chapter's rates.
Why is the convenience fee a little more than the card rate times the charge?
The fee is calculated so your chapter nets the full charge after the processor takes its percent of the whole payment, including the fee itself.
