Create roles and give them to officers

Give an officer a role with only the permissions their job needs.

A role (like Treasurer or Secretary) is a set of permissions. Chapter admins create roles and give them to officers in the web app. Only admins can do this.

Admins vs. officers with a role

  • An admin can see and do everything in your chapter, including Tasks, Banking, changing the payout account, and most My Chapter tabs.
  • An officer with a role sees only what its permissions open. For example, View Transactions opens Payments and Balances, and View Payment Plans opens Payment Plans. See Permissions for what each one does.

Give someone a role when they need part of MyGreek. Make them an admin only when they need all of it.

Create a role

  1. Select your profile picture and choose My Chapter.
  2. Open the Roles tab and select Create Role.
  3. Enter a Role Name. To start from a preset, pick Treasurer, Vice President, Secretary or Recruitment Chair under Use Template (Optional).
  4. Tick the permissions the role needs, then select Create Role.

Give someone a role

  1. On the Roles tab, select Assign members (the person-plus icon) on the role.
  2. Search for the member, select Add, then Done.

You can also open the member's page and choose Actions → Manage Roles. To give one person a single permission without a role, tick it on the Permissions tab of their member page.

What happens next

Editing a role changes it for everyone who has that role. Officers may need to refresh MyGreek to see new pages.

Common questions

Which My Chapter tabs can an officer with a role see?

General Info always. Payouts needs View Payouts. Roles needs View Roles (they can look, not edit). Custom Fields needs Update Members. Academic Calendar needs Manage Budgets. Every other tab is admin-only.

Someone can see Payouts but not who paid. Why?

Seeing which members paid needs View Transactions too. Add it to their role.
