Add parent contacts
Add a parent or guardian as a secondary contact so they get the member's bills and reminders by email.
A parent contact (a secondary contact in the app) is a parent, guardian or anyone else who should get a member's bills. Officers with Manage Secondary Contacts can add them; View Secondary Contacts can only see them.
What parent contacts get
Parent contacts get emails, not texts:
- Bills: an email whenever the member is billed, fined, charged a late fee, credited or has their balance adjusted, such as "Your student Jordan Smith has been billed $450.00", with the member's payment link.
- Payment reminders: an evening email before and around the due date, and when the balance is past due. These follow your chapter's reminder settings, and a member who paid that day is skipped. See Send payment reminders.
- Late fee warnings: if Late Fee Warnings is on, an email the day before a late fee is added. See Set up late fees.
Contacts of archived members get nothing.
Steps
- In Members, open the member and select the Secondary Contacts tab.
- Select Add Contact.
- Enter the parent's Email Address (required), plus their name and Phone Number if you have them.
- Select Add.
To change or remove a contact, use the edit or delete button on their row.
Other ways parents get added
- The member adds them. At first login, the Parent Contact step asks for a parent's name and email. Members can skip it with I pay my own dues (skip), and change contacts later in Settings > Secondary Contacts.
- The parent pays. When a parent pays on pay.mygreek.us with Notify me of future charges for checked (it's on by default), their email is added as a contact. See Pay for a member as a parent or family member.
- Roster import. You can map up to two parents when you import your roster, for newly imported members only.
Common questions
Can I export a list of parent contacts?
Not yet; the roster export doesn't include them. Email support@mygreek.us if you need a list.
Why did a parent contact disappear?
If an email to a parent bounces, MyGreek removes that contact and emails the member to let them know. Check the address with the member and add it again.
Does the parent need a MyGreek account?
No. Parents pay with the member's payment link or code. Once they're a contact, they can also log in with that email or phone number to get a one-tap link to each member they pay for.
