My card was declined or the payment form started over

Why a card is rejected when you add it or pay, what each message means, and how to get the payment through.

When you add a new card, MyGreek first runs a $0 check with your card issuer to confirm the ZIP code and security code. If that check fails, the card isn't saved and nothing is charged. A card can also be declined later, when you confirm the payment.

Why this happens

The ZIP code doesn't match your card

On pay.mygreek.us you see ZIP code doesn't match: "The ZIP code you entered doesn't match the billing address your card issuer has on file. Nothing was charged."

In the MyGreek app the message reads: "The address provided does not match the address associated with the card."

This is the most common reason parents see the card form "start over". The form only asks for a ZIP code, so it is always the ZIP that didn't match.

Fix: select Try again and enter the ZIP code from your card's billing statement. If you moved recently, your card issuer may still have your old address. Or pay with a bank account instead.

The security code (CVC) doesn't match

On pay.mygreek.us you see Security code doesn't match: "The security code (CVC) you entered doesn't match your card. Nothing was charged."

Fix: select Try again and re-enter the code. It's the 3-digit code on the back of the card, or 4 digits on the front for American Express.

Your card issuer declined the check

On pay.mygreek.us you see Card declined: "Your card issuer declined the verification check", sometimes with a reason. Nothing was charged.

Fix: try a different card, or call the number on the back of your card and ask why it was declined.

The payment itself was declined

If the card was accepted but the payment fails, you see "Your payment method was declined", usually with a reason such as insufficient funds, expired card or "do not honor". The charge stays on the balance.

Fix: use a different card or a bank account, or ask your card issuer to allow the payment and try again. Some cards have daily or per-purchase limits; a smaller payment may go through.

The payment form didn't load

If you see We couldn't load the payment form, check your connection and select Retry.

Pay by bank account instead

A bank account skips the card ZIP and security-code checks. Choose the bank account option and connect your bank through Plaid. Bank payments usually have a lower convenience fee than cards (see Fees). The payment is sent to your bank by the next business day.
